The Next Big Thing

“The Next Big Thing” is a Blog Hop in which participants post about their current work in progress. I was tagged by Lynsie Buchanan, whose WIP looks mighty interesting…wolves and dream lovers, oh my!

As for me, I’ve got a few things going at the moment, but I’ll stick to just one….

What is the working title of your book?  “The Casanova Club”

Mama San at Club Casanova, 2003

Where did the idea for the book come from?  From my experience working in Tokyo my last semester of college.

What genre does the book fall under? Maybe Historic Literary Fiction?

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie? It would have to have an international cast – Japanese actors for many parts, such as the club owners and love interests of my main character. Her friends would be played by Israeli, European and Australian women. For my main character, I see a strong, independent and yet naïve young woman, maybe Emma Watson (I know she’s not American but she would be perfect!)

What is a one-sentence synopsis of the book? A naïve young American woman goes to Japan and begins a “love/hate” relationship with Tokyo as she gets involved in the seedy underbelly of the city’s torrid nightlife.

Will the book be published or represented by an agency? I am an Indie author so I will most likely publish it myself.

How long did it take you to write the first draft? I have notes that I began in the late eighties, but I have just started seriously working on it.

Who or what inspired you to write this book?  While I was writing my novel “The Long Engagement,”  I came across a journal I kept while I was in Japan. It occurred to me that there might be a story there, about a girl getting entrenched in Tokyo’s nightlife and what effect the experience has on her.

What else about your book might interest the reader? I think an exposé about the darker side of Japan would be entertaining, especially since some aspects of it are not very well known to outsiders. It will also be a sort of “coming of age” story since it will be about a young woman’s experience.

And now I will point you to the next blog, that of my fellow She Writer,  Marivi Soliven: Conversations. Her next book looks absolutely intriguing!

Feel free to check out all the participants to see what is coming out in the future of books. Happy reading!

Birthing a Book Baby

Writing a book is a lot like pregnancy and child birth.

Newborn child, seconds after birth. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

There are the initial

sleepless nights

and the

nausea

as well as a lot of

pain

fear

 and uncertainty.

and then there are good days, filled with

elation

and

excitement.

When the end is near, there is that feeling of

anticipation

and finally being

SICK AND TIRED

of the whole thing.

“Get it out already!”

And then there’s

child birth….

(and going through it all once more).

In the end, it’s out, and all we can do is hope for the best.

Well, folks…..

IT’S OUT!!

The book that I’ve been working on for the last four years is out in the world!!

THE LONG ENGAGEMENT

is now on Amazon.

It is a story of first love and second chances.

But most of all,

it’s about the messy part in between.

Because you just can’t get to the end

of the story

without

 the in-between.
