“Quality Space” – Current Trends in Home Decor

I read an interesting article recently about the change in perception among first time homebuyers. In the past, people were more likely to try to find a home that they envisioned themselves living in long term. Today, however, attitudes are shifting, and people aren’t necessarily looking for a “forever” home. They are looking for a place that suits their current lifestyle. A lot of people I work with see their home purchase as an investment. In these uncertain times, real estate is a great investment. My clients want to be able to make a little money down the road when they decide to sell and move on.

In spite of (or maybe because of) the current state of the nation, the real estate business here in #Savannah has been super busy! I guess being holed up at home has inspired people to rethink their living situations. In the past few months, more and more of my clients have been looking for a place that speaks to them at the present moment, where they can see themselves living a better quality life now. The most obvious thing I’ve noticed has been people looking for a little more space, whether it’s indoors or outdoors. But it’s not so much about how big that space is, but rather how usable it is. They are looking for what I call “quality space.”

According to Consumer Affairs, here are some other #trends in homes across the country:

Replacing Carpets – There are so many other great options for flooring: wood, laminate, tile, even cement. They are more modern and “of the moment.” And it’s fairly easy to do yourself if you don’t have the budget to hire a contractor!

Bronze & Black Finishes – Brass and gold handles and faucets are things of the past. You can give your rooms a fresh, modern look by replacing them with matte or oil-rubbed bronze or black hardware. Lighting, too has picked up on the trend.

Wallpaper – Believe it or not, it’s making a comeback. We’re not talking your grandmother’s florals and country-themed wallpaper. These days, the trend is modern patterns and easy application. If you are one of those people who have secretly harbored a love of wallpaper – or just wished for an option other than paint – you’re in luck. You can do a cool accent wall in a sleek, geometric print…. and the bonus is, it’s as easy as peel-and-stick!

Bold Patterns and Pops of Color – In the recent past, the trend was towards minimalism: neutral solids or basic patterns. But that has shifted to more eye-catching whimsical and bolder prints. Whether on accent walls or furniture, bold patterns and pops of color are an easy and budget-friendly way to freshen up a room. If you’re not up to painting, a colorful throw, bedding or pillows can do the job.

However you decide to freshen up your living space, it’s important to make sure it will contribute to your well-being and comfort. The current trends are designed to help you create a space where you can draw strength and inspiration from your surroundings. An investment in “quality space” is ultimately an investment in you!
