Fifth Grade Band … It’s Going to be a LONG Year

The Little Ninja

My youngest son aka The Little Ninja just started fifth grade. In fifth grade, the kids get to be in band.

Oh joy!

He decided he wanted to play the French horn because someone came into his class and played the theme from Star Wars on one. That’s as good a reason as any, I guess.

The band teacher told him he’d have to start out on the trumpet and in January he can move on to the French horn. So we went to the local music store to pick up his instrument.

The case is almost as big as he is!

I tried to convince him to try the clarinet instead – that case is teeny – but he wouldn’t budge.

I don’t know where that kid gets his stubborn streak from…..

I don’t think there will be trumpet players waiting at the Pearly Gates, but if there are, I better get a high five as I pass through.

It’s going to be a LONG year. God help me.

  1. We went through two trombone children, then on to guitar and one is picking up piano now. I LOVE that the arts haven’t died in schools and our kids are given a chance to try an instrument. How fun!

  2. Me too, Julie. I was secretly thrilled that the little guy wanted to learn an instrument, especially since his two older brothers weren’t at all interested. My sister and brother played the trumpet and trombone, and I played piano and flute. Fun times!
