And Now For Something Completely Different

I have been doing a lot of research the past couple of months, for my WIP, a fictional novel that takes place mostly in Australia. I spent six months there, after college, trekking from Sydney up the east coast to Cape Tribulation, then across the desert to Mount Isa (for the rodeo), all the way up to Darwin, and finally down the west coast to Perth. It was kind of like my recent Florida road trip – no itinerary, just traveling around and checking out different places.

I loved Australia. It was everything I imagined it to be: big, wild, full of possibilities. Both rugged and beautiful at the same time, Australia left an imprint on my soul.

I have been able to relive the more poignant memories by reading through some of my old journals. Fortunately, my younger, more romantic, self also loved to write. I thought I would share one of the poems I found …

Cape Tribulation, Australia

Cape Tribulation, Australia

IN TRANSITION

Sometimes

in the evenings

     dusty blue and

           shimmering,

I pause

to listen

     for the trailing ends

            of conversations-

half-remembered

           undulating

on a breath of air

           reverberating.

And sometimes

in the half light

     reflections

           of conversations

attract

           refract;

 whispers

      echoing silently,

shattering

     the stillness

            of a

           memory.

I’d love to hear what you think….

  1. I’ve only just started blogging, both writing and reading, and I’ve read a couple of blogs this afternoon that I’ve just navigated away from. Not because they weren’t good, or interesting, but just because I’d finished! Now it occurs to me that, being a blogger myself, I would like people to comment on what I write, so I will make a rule now, never to read a blog without leaving some sort of comment afterwards.
In your case, Wendi, I liked your little poem, but I was really impressed with the photo’s, especially the sunset/rise. Fabulous, and well done.

  2. Thanks for stopping by Bev, and especially for taking the time to comment! It can be frustrating not to hear anything from people, even though I know I get a lot of people stopping by. Good luck with you own blog and I’ll be sure to comment when I visit. 🙂
